Health and Wellness

Dogs are mammals as human beings are and their physiology works pretty much like ours. Given that those loved furry-mates can’t talk, we should be very aware of every manifestation of their psychological and physical needs. Hence, the welfare and good health of our dogs would greatly depend on the ability that we, as owners, have to interpret their feelings. As follows, I will list 10 tips of interest in the welfare of your dog.

Consider your dog as a family member

Like children, dogs also require of our loving care. In every home, dogs and children play together and share a lot of happy times during their childhood. Dogs get so mingled in our lives that it is not easy to plan for a travel or a vacation without considering the welfare of our pet. Even when going to the supermarket or visiting some friends, we plan in the function of our adopted pet. According to a survey published in Scientific American Mind, 90% of pet owners consider their pet part of the family.

Dogs convey so much happiness to our lives that frequently we register them under our family’s name. In fact, dogs usually are our most loyal companions all through their relatively short lives.

A healthy mind in a healthy body.

Our dogs, as well as ourselves, require periodic exercise. If you must walk your dog, you could combine the physiological purpose of your tour with some mutually enjoyable exercise. Bring some toy such as a frisbee or a ball to play with your dog. Exercising will better your health, will reduce your levels of stress and will create a superb sense of gratitude from your dog for the good moment spent with you.

Keeping a routine is the best training ever.

If you want to be happy about having a dog, you must train your pet to maintain a routine for most activities. From their puppy age, dogs should be taught to do their physiological needs outdoor or in a specific indoor space. They will tend to depose in the same place every time they feel the need. If we want our dogs to have good habits, we should have a routine for walking, feeding, and playing.

Educating your dog

Dogs, as humans, own different levels of intelligence and memory. So, education cannot have a standard way of induction. Let’s say that all dogs will learn good habits and tricks, but it will depend on our degree of patience (and treats) to teach. Basic knowledge for any dog should be the mastering of their physiological needs and some rules of obedience such as the answer to their name, sitting or lying, not barking inconveniently and learn to live together with children.

Canine hygiene

To keep our dogs clean and smelly should be not only a matter of hygiene but also a passport for them to gain the sympathy of other people. If you are the type of owner who does not like to bath your dog weekly, you must use wet pads and a brush to keep them always clean.

A dog clean and affable will probably capture more sights and caresses from dog-lovers.

As carnivorous animals, dogs should keep their denture in good shape. It must be our duty to clean their teeth or supply them cleaning tools regularly.

And to complement the hygiene world of our dogs we must keep clean not only their ears, paws, face, and body, but also the place where they sleep, and the collars and vests that they use.

Love and be loved

Dogs are especially sensitive to attention and caresses than any other species. Besides, they can interpret our mood and learn from our state of mind how to react accordingly. The relationship of affection between dogs and owners is a way to make our pets more sociable and aware of their owner’s circumstances. Our dogs make us feel the reward of giving love and the meaning of receiving back loyalty and true affection.

Dog’s privacy moments

Dogs, as people, also have secrets and like from time to time to be alone. To allow for moments of privacy we should create for our furry-friends space where they can be alone. A dog-house, a cage or a corner in the house will serve to this purpose.

ID your furry friend

Today there are new forms of identifying your dog. Besides the traditional medal in the collar there is now of common use a sub-cutaneous chip with all the pet information embedded. If your dog eventually gets lost, he could be located via satellite. The chip will also contain, besides the name and address of the dog, valuable medical information from the veterinarian.

If you feel, dear reader, that we have forgotten any important issue for the well-being of our dog, let us know.
